Following the 2010 mid-term elections, major legislative battles have moved from Washington into the states. State legislative sessions across the country from California to Kentucky, Texas to Rhode Island have witnessed the introduction of immigration enforcement bills that have severe implications for racial profiling. While communities on the frontlines defend against anti-immigrant measures, some states have taken the offensive and introduced proactive bills to prevent racial profiling and to hold local law enforcement accountable.
In this strategy session last month, Rights Working Group members shared both offensive and defensive approaches to the fights at the state level. Listen as we strategize to bolster state legislative strategies on immigration bills that impact racial profiling. Profiling of targeted communities continues to be a haunting problem and makes us all less safe.
