Under the Obama administration, immigration enforcement programs that expand the authority of local law enforcement have sky rocketed. The 287(g), Secure Communities, Criminal Alien Program and other programs presents an alarming threat to our nation’s civil liberties. The standardization of the 287(g) MOAs and expansion of the Secure Communities program fail to address concerns around racial profiling and other serious civil rights abuses. These programs must stop and we need your help to stop them!
A coalition of civil rights and immigrant rights groups including the Rights Working Group are making a national call for organizations and individuals to file as many civil rights complaints possible. We need your help collecting complaints. Below are the instructions to file a complaint as well as template complaints. Complaints do not have to be recent incidences. Incidences can be from any time period when the 287(g) or other ICE ACCESS program was in affect in the local area.
Complaints can be documented from anonymous sources but we recommend that you encourage people to identify themselves if possible because DHS is less likely to act on an anonymous complaint. If the organization receives a number of people who will only fill out the form if they can be listed as anonymous, you need to document these including the reasons why they wish to remain anonymous. Please red the instructions carefully. If you have any questions please contact pbenjamin@rightsworkinggroup.org.
